We were lucky enough to make two trips to Wintergreen in the fall. If you want to get out and about but keep your social distance, head to the mountains!
For the first trip, we stayed at a lovely AirBNB, a private suite on the ground floor of a log cabin nestled back in the trees off the road. It was super foggy when we arrived and into the next morning, but the fog burned off and we were able to find the Appalachian Trail and do a little hiking. We also hiked the Shamokin Falls trails as well – beautiful scenery and waterfalls!
For the second trip, we stayed at the Wintergreen Resort. Thanks to Covid, the place was a ghost town. We practically had the indoor pool to ourselves and we never saw a soul near our apartment.
In that neck of the woods, we love visiting Bold Rock Hard Cider and Devil’s Backbone Brewery. Both have great outdoor areas for eating and drinking. When the weather is nice, we like to walk down to the meadow and go wading in the water at Bold Rock. Of cousre, things are different because of Covid, so check the websites to see if reservations are available! Even Bold Rock, with all of its outdoor space, was limiting the amount of people they allowed into the restaurant, the barn, and the meadow.
