I know we’re not alone in the fact that Covid-19 has wrecked our summer travel plans. I haven’t posted in a while, because, well.. The Goodwins haven’t gone anywhere.
We had talked about going somewhere for the kiddo’s spring break. We were checking out home exchange possibilities in California. Or maybe a beach house somewhere on the East coast. Or maybe we’d finally suck it up, go to Orlando, and do the Magic Kingdom.
And then Covid-19 came to the States. And it’s still here.
We homeschooled. We canceled our summer travel plans – to Milan. No birthday parties or playdates. No swimming lessons or soccer practice. We stayed home. We took (are still taking) social distancing very seriously. It breaks my heart that our son has had such a weird summer, but we really have made the best of it.
We got an inflatable pool and have spent a lot of time in the backyard. He got a bike for his birthday, so we’re working on those skills. We go for walks to collect rocks and play in the nearby stream. We started a garden and it’s doing really well, despite the squirrels constantly stealing my tomatoes. There have been lots of arts and crafts and other projects. And so, so many LEGOs.
We’ve done a few day trips here and there, so I’ll post about those soon.
In the meantime, I’m dreaming about our next trip… to who knows where.
Summer plans changed because of the pandemic but local day trips adventures helped us celebrate the season before school on Line begins. Great post. Thanks.
