My Must-Have Souvenir from Every Trip

I don’t want a t-shirt or a shot glass as a souvenir from a trip. I used to try to pick up a small piece of inexpensive jewelry whenever we went somewhere, but even the novelty of that wore off after awhile. (I’m a mom; I don’t wear a whole lot of jewelry these days, so what’s the point?)

What we DO tend to look for when we travel is something that we can display in our house – a piece of art or something. And if we’re in a country where the language is something other than English, I try to get a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar for Jacob in that language. But that’s about it.

The fact that we don’t lug home a ton of souvenirs is probably why I take so many pictures.

But then what are you supposed to do with thousands of pictures when you get home?

That’s where *Shutterfly comes in.

You upload all your pictures to the site and then you can create a photo book to display all your pictures. I love this for so many reasons:

  • Your pictunnamed (2)ures are all stored on Shutterfly, so if anything happens to your computer, your phone, your USB drive, whatever… you still have the pictures.
  • It’s like scrapbooking but without cutting, pasting, and gluing.
  • It’s way easier than sorting through photos and putting them in an album.
  • They look SO NICE when they’re done.

You don’t have to be a graphic designer to make one, either. While it does take some time to make a photo book, the Shunnamed (4)utterfly program makes it so easy to change the layout of your pages – and then you just drop in your photos. Plus it’s simple to add backgrounds and little “embellishments” to really customize your book and make it special. Still, if you’re really not confident in your design abilities, you can pay a fee and Shutterfly will design a book for you!

The books come in all different sizes and you can get a soft or hard cover. You can add as many photos as you like, and if you run out of room (as I often do!) you can add more pages to the book.

It’s not necessarily the cheapest option for organizing and displaying your photos. An 8×11 photo book (which is the Shutterfly top seller and the size I always choose) starts at $24.99. You pay more for any special themes and extras that you add on, plus any extra pages, and of course, you pay for shipping.

However… Shutterfly always seems to have AMAZING sales and codes for free shipping if you spend a certain amount. We even get coupons in the mail a lot of times with credit card statements and stuff, too, and we always hang onto them because we know they’ll get used!

There are other photo sites out there that do the same thing, but we’ve been using Shutterfly for photos since we got married in 2013. We make our Christmas cards with them every year and have used the site for lots of other personalized photo gifts and decor. At the end of every year, I take all of our photos and make them into one big “Year In Review” book. And our travel photo books, to me, are the best travel souvenir of all!

*We are not affiliated with Shutterfly in anyway and we didn’t receive anything for this post.
